Intergovernmental Science Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).
On the 1st of June in South Korea governments gave the go ahead for the Intergovernmental Science Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).
The UNEP press release states:
“The new body will bridge the gulf between the wealth of scientific knowledge- documenting accelerating declines and degradation of the natural world- and the decisive government action required to reverse these damaging trends”.
This is a positive move towards protecting the planets precious biodiversity.
If you want to have a voice in protecting our biodiversity you can sign the International Youth Accord on biodiversity which will be presented at Cop (UN conference) in Japan in October. I would really like to see a lot of Australian signatures supporting this accord. It only takes about two minutes to sign it: www.biodiversitymatters.org
